This software update program is for the customer-owned product listed above (the “affected product”), and is provided only on acceptance of the agreement listed below. - • This service supplies software that can be used to update the Z6III camera “C” firmware to version 2.00. Before proceeding, select [Firmware version] in the camera [SETUP MENU] and check the camera firmware version. You will not need to download or install this update if the firmware listed above is already installed.
- • This update includes all changes made in previous updates.
- • A card reader and computer are required for the firmware update.
- • Read the information below before proceeding.

Caution: Updating the Firmware
Do not update the camera firmware with lenses other than Z-mount NIKKOR lenses or mount adapters other than FTZ II/FTZ attached; failure to observe this precaution could result in camera malfunction.

Note: The changes listed below under “Still Photography”, “Video Recording”, “Playback”, “Controls”, and “Network” are detailed in the Supplementary Firmware Update Manual.
Note: Due to the addition of new menu items, some Custom Settings menu items have been renumbered.
■ Still Photography
- • Added [Birds] to [AF/MF subject detection options] in the photo shooting menu.
- • The maximum shooting display zoom ratio is now 400%.
- • Added [Auto capture] to the photo shooting menu. Users can select capture criteria from [Motion] (the direction the subject is moving), [Distance] (how far the subject is from the camera), and [Subject detection] (whether or not a subject of a given type is detected), and the camera will take photographs automatically while it detects subjects that meet the selected criteria. Note that [Distance] is available with NIKKOR Z lenses and may not function as expected when used with other lenses. The [FX (36×24)] and [DX (24×16)] image areas are available with auto capture.
- • Added a [C15] high-speed frame capture + release mode option.
- • The image quality for high-speed frame capture + can now be set separately from other release modes.
- • [Options] has been added under [Focus shift shooting] in the [PHOTO SHOOTING MENU] to allow [Pixel shift shooting] to be used together with focus shift shooting.
- • [Options] has been added under [Pixel shift shooting] in the [PHOTO SHOOTING MENU] to allow [AE bracketing] to be used together with pixel shift shooting. [Starting storage folder] has also been added.
- • [Pixel shift shooting] options can now be set when the self-timer mode is selected.
- • The Profoto A10’s continuous LED light can now be used as an AF-assist illuminator.

- • Added assignable custom controls and roles (for example, [Jump to the source image] and [Trim]) to [CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU] > f3 [Custom controls (playback)].
- • Made changes to the f4 [Touch Fn] > [Move focus point] item in the [CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU].
- • Changes have been made to how a full format is performed with [Format memory card] in the [SETUP MENU].

■ Network
- • Added [USB streaming (UVC/UAC)] to [USB] in the [NETWORK MENU].
- • A warning now appears when the connection to an ATOMOS AirGlu BT accessory is unstable or disrupted.
- • Changed some messages and the default values related to Nikon Imaging Cloud.
- • A new method for adding Picture Controls from Nikon Imaging Cloud is now available.
- • ATOMOS AirGlu BT accessories and MC-N10 remote grips can now be used together.
- • Made changes and additions to the [Connect to FTP server] item in the [NETWORK MENU].
- • Changed the procedure used when configuring the camera for synchronized release, increasing to twenty the number of groups that can be created, while the number of cameras in each group that can be controlled from the master camera has been increased to sixteen.
- • Added [Group settings] and [Overwrite copyright info] to [Connect to other cameras] in the [NETWORK MENU].
■ Other Changes
- • Changed the specifications for uninterrupted video output to HDMI devices such as external monitors when recording ended.
- • The headphone volume level can now be adjusted in the “i” menu during video recording.
- • Direct measurement of white balance is now available also for still photography via applications, such as NX Tether.
- • Voice memo recording is now available with external microphones.
- • The tonal characteristics have been changed when [ON] is selected for Custom Setting g13 [View assist] in the [CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU].
- • The camera now records company and model names in the video metadata recorded with [ProRes 422 HQ 10-bit (MOV)] selected for [Video file type] in the [VIDEO RECORDING MENU].
- • Added support for “NX Field*”, a remote shooting system for corporate users.

- • Reduced noise in dark areas of N-Log videos.
- • Renamed d14 [Display on during burst] in [CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU].
- • Fixed the following issues:
- - In rare circumstances, the camera would stop responding during video recording when [Video file type] was set to [ProRes 422 HQ 10-bit (MOV)] and [Hi-Res Zoom] to [ON] in the video recording menu.
- - The camera would stop responding when the HDMI cable was disconnected after connecting the camera to an external monitor via HDMI and performing operations such as shooting or playback.
- - In rare circumstances, the camera would stop responding when rotating the photo/video selector to switch to video mode while [Video flicker reduction] > [Digital flicker reduction] was set to [ON] in the [VIDEO RECORDING MENU].
- - In rare circumstances, the camera would stop responding during video recording when an ATOMOS AirGlu BT compatible device was connected.
- - Noise would appear in the audio of the recorded video when an external microphone, which did not require a power supply, was connected and [Audio input sensitivity] was set to [Manual] in the video recording menu.
- - An error message appeared and recording ended without saving the video to the memory card when [Video file type] was set to [N-RAW 12-bit (NEV)] in the video recording menu and the remaining recording time was low.
- - Slight image shake occurred when recording videos under the following conditions:
- ▸ A micro lens was attached.
- ▸ [Electronic VR] was set to [ON] in the video recording menu.
- ▸ The camera was fixed on a tripod or similar.
- - In rare circumstances, optimal exposure could not be achieved during burst shooting after changing the exposure in mode M.
- - The shutter release response became extremely slow after shooting using radio Advanced Wireless Lighting (AWL) with an optional WR-R10 wireless remote controller.
- - In rare circumstances, detection borders did not appear on the detected subjects during burst shooting.

- Updating the Camera Firmware
-
- Download the following firmware file to your computer.
Please make sure you have the downloaded firmware file on your computer.
• Z6_3_0200.bin (the camera firmware)
- Using a card reader, copy “Z6_3_0200.bin” to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
Note: Be sure to copy the firmware to the root (top-most) directory of the memory card. The camera will not recognize the new firmware if it is placed in a folder under the root directory.
- Insert the memory card into the slot currently selected as the primary slot on the camera and turn the camera on.
- Select [Firmware version] in the [SETUP MENU] and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
- Once the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
- Confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.
Note: Updates can be performed for you by a Nikon-authorized service representative.
