This software update program is for the customer-owned product listed above (the “affected product”), and is provided only on acceptance of the agreement listed below. By selecting “Accept” and clicking “Download”, you are held to have accepted the terms and conditions of the agreement. Be sure you understand the terms of the agreement before beginning download.

  • • This service supplies software that can be used to update the Z 8 camera “C” firmware to version 1.01. Use [Firmware version] in the [SETUP MENU] to check the camera firmware version before proceeding. You will not need to download this update if the firmware listed above is already installed.
  • • Read the information below before proceeding.
Changes from “C” Firmware Version 1.00 to 1.01
  • • Changed the timing of the high-temperature warnings appearing when the camera’s internal temperature increases mainly during video recording.
  • • Changed the position where the memory card high-temperature warning is displayed in video mode.
  • • Fixed the following issues:
    • - The battery would draw down more quickly while the camera was off if [ON] was selected for [Connect to smart device] > [Wi-Fi connection] in the [NETWORK MENU] even if [OFF] was selected for both [Bluetooth connection] and [Upload while off].
    • - Focus could still be adjusted using the focus ring when [Disable] was selected for a15 [Manual focus ring in AF mode] in the [CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU] if an option other than [Non-linear] was chosen for f9 [Focus ring rotation range] in the [CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU].
    • - SB-800 flash units would sometimes stop responding after pictures were taken with the flash disabled.
Viewing the Camera Firmware Version
  1. Turn the camera on.
  2. Press the camera MENU button and select [Firmware version] in the [SETUP MENU] to display the camera firmware version.
  3. Check the camera firmware version.
  4. Turn the camera off.

Updating the Camera Firmware
  1. Create a folder on the computer hard disk and name it as desired.
  2. Download F-Z8-V101W.exe to the folder created in Step 1.
  3. Run F-Z8-V101W.exe to extract the following file to a folder named “Z8Update”:
    • Z_8_0101.bin (the camera firmware)
  4. Using a card reader, copy “Z_8_0101.bin” to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
    Note: Be sure to copy the firmware to the root (top-most) directory of the memory card. The camera will not recognize the new firmware if it is placed in a folder under the root directory.
  5. Insert the memory card into Slot 1 on the camera and turn the camera on.
  6. Select [Firmware version] in the [SETUP MENU] and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
  7. Once the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
  8. Confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.

Updating the Camera Firmware
  1. Download the following firmware file to your computer.
    Please make sure you have the downloaded firmware file on your computer.
    • Z_8_0101.bin (the camera firmware)
  2. Using a card reader, copy “Z_8_0101.bin” to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
    Note: Be sure to copy the firmware to the root (top-most) directory of the memory card. The camera will not recognize the new firmware if it is placed in a folder under the root directory.
  3. Insert the memory card into Slot 1 on the camera and turn the camera on.
  4. Select [Firmware version] in the [SETUP MENU] and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
  5. Once the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
  6. Confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.
