This software update program is for the customer-owned product listed above (the “affected product”), and is provided only on acceptance of the agreement listed below. By selecting “Accept” and clicking “Download”, you are held to have accepted the terms and conditions of the agreement. Be sure you understand the terms of the agreement before beginning download.

  • • This service supplies software that can be used to update the firmware for COOLPIX A1000 cameras to version 1.4. Before proceeding, select Firmware version in the camera Set up menu and check the camera firmware version. You will not need to download or install this update if the firmware listed above is already installed.
  • • This update includes all changes made in previous updates.
  • • Read the information below before proceeding.

Important

Images stored in the camera’s internal memory will be deleted when the firmware is updated. Be sure to back up images stored in the camera’s internal memory before updating the firmware. See the camera manual for instructions on copying images from internal memory to a memory card.

Changes from Firmware Version 1.3 to 1.4
  • • Fixed the following issues, which would in rare circumstances occur in modes P, S, A, and M:
    • - All camera controls would stop responding after the shutter-release button was pressed.
    • - Some portions of the menu display would be corrupted.

    Caution
    If the issues above persist after the camera firmware has been updated to version 1.4, select Reset all in the Set up menu. Note that this resets camera settings to default values.

Changes from Previous Versions
Changes from Firmware Version 1.2 to 1.3
  • • Fixed the following issues:
    • - Pictures would sometimes not be saved to certain SD memory cards.
    • - If Date Shot was selected for Folder Naming in the Nikon Transfer 2 Primary Destination tab when pictures were copied to a computer connected to the camera via USB, RAW images would be transferred using not “Date Shot” but “Date Transferred”.
Changes from Firmware Version 1.1 to 1.2
  • • Fixed the following issues:
    • - When users attempted to pair the camera with the smart device using the SnapBridge app under iOS 13, pairing would end in failure and a message to that effect would be displayed.
    • - At default settings with a battery inserted and the camera connected to an EH-73P charging AC adapter via a UC-E21 USB cable, the power (charge) lamp would not flash and the battery would not charge when the adapter was plugged in.
    • - In certain locales, location data would not be acquired or recorded with pictures even with Yes selected for Location data > Download from device in the Set up menu.
Changes from Firmware Version 1.0 to 1.1
  • • Fixed the following issues:
    • - Tapping particular areas of the display when attempting to select certain items in the Fn menu would cause the camera to stop responding.
    • - Tapping to the right of 6400 when attempting to select a value for ISO sensitivity in the Fn menu would result in the camera exiting to a menu one level higher.
    • - Photographs taken under certain lighting with Auto (normal) or Auto (warm lighting) selected for White balance would have a bluish cast.
    • - In Continuous H, Continuous M, and Continuous L release modes, frame advance rates would slow as shutter speeds became faster.
    • - The camera would sometimes stop responding during burst photography when RAW was selected for Image quality.
    • - The camera would sometimes stop responding during playback of photographs taken during burst photography with RAW selected for Image quality.
    • - Audio for movies filmed under certain conditions would sometimes break up.
    • - Location data downloaded via SnapBridge would sometimes not be recorded with pictures.
Viewing the Camera Firmware Version
  1. Turn the camera on.
  2. Press the camera MENU button to display the menus.
  3. Press the multi selector left to display menu icons, then highlight Set up and press OK.
  4. Highlight Firmware version in the Set up menu and press OK to display the camera firmware version.
  5. Check the camera firmware version.
  6. Turn the camera off.

Updating the Camera Firmware
  1. Create a folder on the computer hard disk and name it as desired.
  2. Download F-A1000-V14W.exe to the folder created in Step 1.
  3. Run F-A1000-V14W.exe to extract the firmware to a sub-folder in the new folder. The resulting file and folder hierarchy is shown below:
    • firmware (the sub-folder containing the firmware)
    • firmware.bin (the camera firmware, located in the “firmware” folder)
  4. Using a card slot or card reader, copy the “firmware” folder to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
    Note: Be sure to copy the “firmware” folder to the root (top-most) directory of the memory card. The camera will not recognize the new firmware if it is placed in a folder under the root directory.
  5. Insert the memory card into the camera and turn the camera on.
  6. Select Firmware version in the Set up menu and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
  7. Once the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
  8. Confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.

Updating the Camera Firmware
  1. Download F-A1000-V14M.dmg.
  2. Double-click the F-A1000-V14M.dmg icon to mount a disk image containing the folder and file below:
    • firmware (the sub-folder containing the firmware)
    • firmware.bin (the camera firmware, located in the “firmware” folder)
  3. Using a card slot or card reader, copy the “firmware” folder to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
