WR-1 Firmware

This software update program is for the customer-owned product listed above (the “affected product”), and is provided only on acceptance of the agreement listed below. By selecting “Accept” and clicking “Download”, you are held to have accepted the terms and conditions of the agreement. Be sure you understand the terms of the agreement before beginning download.

  • • This service supplies software that can be used to update the firmware for the WR-1 to version 1.04. You will not need to download or install this update if the firmware listed above is already installed.
  • • Updates to the WR-1 firmware are performed with the unit connected to the camera. See “Cameras That Can Be Used to Update WR-1 Firmware” for information on compatible cameras.
  • • This update includes all changes made in previous updates.
  • • Read the information below before proceeding.

Important

Before performing the update, attach the WR-1 to the camera, slide the Tx/Rx/OFF switch to Rx, and wait at least 10 seconds. For more information, see “Updating the Firmware”.
Cameras That Can Be Used to Update WR-1 Firmware

WR-1 firmware updates can be performed with:

  • • Z 9, Z 7II, Z 7, Z 6II, Z 6, and Z 5 cameras
  • • D6, D5, D4S, D4 (*), Df, D850, D810A, D810, D800 (*), D800E (*), D780, and D750 cameras
  • • D500, D7500, D7200, and D7100 cameras
    * Firmware versions “A” 1.10/“B” 1.10 or later.
    - Other cameras cannot be used to upgrade WR-1 firmware.
    - Firmware upgrades can be performed for you by a Nikon-authorized service representative.
Changes from Firmware Version 1.03 to 1.04
  • • Added support for the Z 9. When used with the Z 9, the product supports display and selection of shutter speeds as fast as 1/32,000.
Changes from Previous Versions
Changes from Firmware Version 1.02 to 1.03
  • • In support of the NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct lens, the product can now be used to set aperture to, and to display an aperture of, f/0.95.
Changes from Firmware Version 1.01 to 1.02
  • • Added support for the Z 7 and Z 6.
Changes from Firmware Version 1.00 to 1.01
  • • The D5 and D500 ISO sensitivity displays are now supported. If you are using two WR-1 units, one as a receiver and the other as a transmitter, update both to firmware version 1.01. If you are using the WR-1 with a WR-R10, have a Nikon-authorized service representative update the WR-R10 to firmware version 3.00.
  • • When used as a transmitter to change ISO sensitivity for a receiving camera, the WR-1 no longer cycles continuously through the available values.
Viewing the WR-1 Firmware Version

On the Camera

  1. Attach the WR-1 to the camera and slide the Tx/Rx/OFF switch to Rx.
  2. Turn the camera on.
  3. Press the camera MENU button and select Firmware version in the SETUP MENU.
  4. Check the WR-1 firmware version (“W”).
  5. Turn the camera off.

On the WR-1

  1. Slide the Tx/Rx/OFF switch to Tx or Rx.
  2. Press MENU and highlight VERSION using the multi selector.
  3. Check the firmware version.
  4. Slide the Tx/Rx/OFF switch to OFF.

Updating the Firmware

Ready one of the following power sources:

  • • An AC adapter
  • • A fully-charged battery
  1. Create a folder on the computer hard disk and name it as desired.
  2. Download F-WR1-V104W.exe to the folder created in Step 1.
  3. Run F-WR1-V104W.exe to extract the following file to a folder named “WR1Update”:
    • WR1_0104.bin (the firmware)
  4. Using a card slot or card reader, copy “WR1_0104.bin” to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
  5. After attaching the WR-1, insert the memory card into Slot 1 on the camera, turn the camera on, and slide the WR-1 Tx/Rx/OFF switch to Rx.
  6. Wait at least 10 seconds.
  7. Select Firmware version in the SETUP MENU and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
  8. Once the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
  9. Confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.

Updating the Firmware

Ready one of the following power sources:

  1. Download F-WR1-V104M.dmg.
  2. Double-click the F-WR1-V104M.dmg icon to mount a disk image containing a folder named “WR1Update”, which in turn contains the following file:
    • WR1_0104.bin (the firmware)
  3. Using a card slot or card reader, copy “WR1_0104.bin” to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
  4. After attaching the WR-1, insert the memory card into Slot 1 on the camera, turn the camera on, and slide the WR-1 Tx/Rx/OFF switch to Rx.
  5. Wait at least 10 seconds.
  6. Select Firmware version in the SETUP MENU and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
  7. Once the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
  8. Confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.
