This software update program is for the customer-owned product listed above (the “affected product”), and is provided only on acceptance of the agreement listed below.   • • This service supplies software that can be used to update the firmware for NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lenses to version 1.01. You will not need to download or install this update if the firmware listed above is already installed.
  • • This firmware update is performed with a NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens attached to a camera. See “Compatible Cameras” for a list of compatible cameras.
  • • To perform the update, you will need the memory card used in the camera and a compatible card reader.

Compatible Cameras

The following cameras can be used to update the firmware for NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lenses:

  • • Z-series cameras, such as the Z 7

Note: Other cameras cannot be used.

Changes from Firmware Version 1.00 to 1.01
  • • Aperture control has been made more reliable by setting aperture to a medium diameter (around f/8) when the camera is turned off, rather than close to the minimum diameter.
Viewing the Lens Firmware Version
  1. Attach a NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens to the camera and turn the camera on.
  2. Press the camera MENU button and select SETUP MENU > Firmware version to display the camera and lens firmware versions.
  3. Check the firmware version.
  4. Turn the camera off.

Updating the Lens Firmware
  1. Create a folder on the computer hard disk and name it as desired.
  2. Download F-MLZ24-70F4S-V0101W.exe to the folder created in Step 1.
  3. Run F-MLZ24-70F4S-V0101W.exe to extract the following file to a folder named “Z24-70F4SUpdate”:
    • MLZ24_70F4S0101.bin (the lens firmware)
  4. Using a card slot or card reader, copy “MLZ24_70F4S0101.bin” to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
    Note: Be sure to copy the firmware to the root (top-most) directory of the memory card. The camera will not recognize the new firmware if it is placed in a folder under the root directory.
  5. Insert the memory card into the camera and turn the camera on.
  6. Select SETUP MENU > Firmware version and follow the on-screen instructions to perform the firmware update.
  7. When a message is displayed stating that the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
  8. Turn the camera on and confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.

Updating the Lens Firmware
  1. Download F-MLZ24-70F4S-V0101M.dmg.
  2. Double-click the F-MLZ24-70F4S-V0101M.dmg icon to mount a disk image containing a folder named “Z24-70F4SUpdate”, which in turn contains the following file:
    • MLZ24_70F4S0101.bin (the lens firmware)
  3. Using a card slot or card reader, copy “MLZ24_70F4S0101” to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
    Note: Be sure to copy the firmware to the root (top-most) directory of the memory card. The camera will not recognize the new firmware if it is placed in a folder under the root directory.
