This software update program is for the customer-owned product listed above (the “affected product”), and is provided only on acceptance of the agreement listed below. By selecting “Accept” and clicking “Download”, you are held to have accepted the terms and conditions of the agreement. Be sure you understand the terms of the agreement before beginning download.

  • • This service supplies software that can be used to update the firmware for COOLPIX A100 cameras to version 1.1. Before proceeding, select Firmware version in the camera Set up menu and check the camera firmware version. You will not need to download or install this update if the firmware listed above is already installed.
  • • This update includes all changes made in previous updates.
  • • Read the information below before proceeding.
Changes from Firmware Version 1.0 to 1.1
  • • The display when Home time zone or Travel destination is selected in the Set up > Time zone and date > Time zone sub-menu now shows only the names of major cities in the currently selected zone.
Viewing the Camera Firmware Version
  1. Turn the camera on.
  2. Press the camera MENU button to display the menus.
  3. Press the multi selector left to display menu icons, then highlight Set up and press OK.
  4. Highlight Firmware version in the Set up menu and press OK to display the camera firmware version.
  5. Check the camera firmware version.
  6. Turn the camera off.

Updating the Camera Firmware
  1. Create a folder on the computer hard disk and name it as desired.
  2. Download F-A100-V11W.exe to the folder created in Step 1.
  3. Run F-A100-V11W.exe to extract the firmware to a sub-folder in the new folder. The resulting file and folder hierarchy is shown below:
    • firmware (the sub-folder containing the firmware)
    • firmware.bin (the camera firmware, located in the “firmware” folder)
  4. Using a card slot or card reader, copy the “firmware” folder to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
    Note: Be sure to copy the “firmware” folder to the root (top-most) directory of the memory card. The camera will not recognize the new firmware if it is placed in a folder under the root directory.
  5. Insert the memory card into the camera and turn the camera on.
  6. Select Firmware version in the Set up menu and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
  7. Once the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
  8. Confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.

Note: We recommend that you back up images stored in the camera’s internal memory before updating the firmware. See the camera manual for information on copying images from internal memory to a memory card.

Updating the Camera Firmware

  2. Double-click the F-A100-V11M.dmg icon to mount a disk image containing the folder and file below:
    • firmware (the sub-folder containing the firmware)
    • firmware.bin (the camera firmware, located in the “firmware” folder)
