This service provides software for upgrading 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 firmware to Ver. 1.10 from any previous firmware version. If this latest firmware version is already installed on your lens, you need not proceed with download or installation of this Firmware Upgrade. The current L firmware (lens firmware) version can be verified from the Firmware version in the camera's setup menu.

IMPORTANT: To users of the Nikon 1 V2

To update 1 NIKKOR lens or Mount Adapter firmware using the Nikon 1 V2, please be sure to update Nikon 1 V2 firmware to A and B firmware Ver. 1.10 or later first.

Do not use a Nikon 1 V2 running A and B firmware Ver. 1.00 to update 1 NIKKOR lens or Mount Adapter firmware. As the lens or Mount Adapter firmware will not be accurately upgraded, attempting to do so will result in problems with 1 NIKKOR lenses and the Mount Adapter that prevent their use.

In addition, if you have already upgraded 1 NIKKOR lens or Mount Adapter firmware using the Nikon 1 V2 running A and B firmware Ver. 1.00, please consult your nearest Nikon service representative.

Modifications enabled with L firmware Ver. 1.10

• When this lens is used with Nikon 1 cameras released in, or after, August 2012, the camera can be turned off by locking the lens barrel (retractable lens barrel button), even if the monitor has turned off and the camera has entered standby mode. 

How to verify your Lens firmware version

If the latest firmware version is already installed on your lens, you need not proceed with download or installation of this Firmware Upgrade. The current firmware version can be verified from the Firmware version item in the camera's setup menu.

1. Mount the lens on the camera.
2. Turn on the camera.
3. Press the camera's MENU button and select Firmware version from the setup menu.
4. The L (lens) firmware version will be displayed.
5. Turn off the camera.

Firmware Upgrade Instructions

Basic Firmware Upgrade Instructions
Power the camera from AC adapter unit or use a fully charged battery.

1. Create a new folder with an appropriate name on your computer's hard drive.

2. Download the Windows (.EXE) or Mac (.DMG) file from the links at the bottom of this page to the folder created in step 1.
3. Run the downloaded file to create a folder called 1N_10-30LUpdate which contains the firmware 1N_10-30L_0110.bin file.
4. Use a card reader or similar device to copy the 1N_10-30L_0110.bin file to the root directory of a formatted SD memory card.   
5. Mount the lens on the camera.   
6. Insert the memory card into the camera's memory card slot and turn on the camera.
7. Select Firmware version from the camera's setup menu and follow instructions displayed to upgrade the firmware.
8. After the upgrade is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
9. Access the Firmware version item in the camera's setup menu to confirm that the firmware has been upgraded.
