This software update program is for the customer-owned product listed above (the “affected product”), and is provided only on acceptance of the agreement listed below.   • • This service supplies software that can be used to update the firmware for COOLPIX S6900 cameras to version 1.2. Before proceeding, select Firmware version in the camera setup menu and check the camera firmware version. You will not need to download or install this update if the firmware listed above is already installed.
  • • Read the information below before proceeding.
Changes from Firmware Version 1.1 to 1.2
  • • Fixed an issue that caused file numbering to be reset to 0001 when all pictures were deleted even if settings had not been reset using Reset all.
  • • Fixed an issue that in rare cases caused banding in pictures.
  • • Fixed an issue that resulted in difficulty focusing on subjects in the center of the frame if the scene auto selector chose Close-up mode.
Viewing the Camera Firmware Version
  1. Turn the camera on.
  2. Tap MENU in the monitor and then tap the  (setup) icon.
  3. Tap Firmware version in the setup menu to display the camera firmware version.
  4. Check the camera firmware version.
  5. Turn the camera off.

Updating the Camera Firmware
  1. Create a folder on the computer hard disk and name it as desired.
  2. Download F-S6900-V12W.exe to the folder created in Step 1.
  3. Run F-S6900-V12W.exe to extract the firmware to a folder named “S6900Update”. The file and folder hierarchy inside the “S6900Update” folder is shown below:
    - firmware (the sub-folder containing the firmware)
    - firmware.bin (the camera firmware, located in the “firmware” folder)
  4. Using a card slot or card reader, copy the “firmware” folder to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
  5. Insert the memory card into the camera and turn the camera on.
  6. Tap Firmware version in the setup menu and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
  7. Once the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
  8. Confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.

Note: We recommend that you back up the pictures in the camera’s built-in memory before performing the update. For information on copying pictures from built-in memory to a memory card, see the documentation provided with the camera. Updating the Camera Firmware
  1. Download “F-S6900-V12M.dmg”.
  2. Double-click the F-S6900-V12M.dmg icon to mount a disk image containing:
    • A “S6900Update” folder, which contains
    - a “firmware” sub-folder, which in turn contains
    - a “firmware.bin” file (the camera firmware, located in the “firmware” sub-folder)
  3. Using a card slot or card reader, copy the “firmware” folder to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
  4. Insert the memory card into the camera and turn the camera on.
  5. Tap Firmware version in the setup menu and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
  6. Once the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
  7. Confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.
